FAQ
heat pump Questions, Answered
What is a heat pump and how does it work?
A heat pump is an all-in-one heating and cooling system that transfers heat instead of generating it. In summer it pulls warm air out of your home (like an AC), and in winter it pulls heat from the outdoor air and brings it inside. Modern cold-climate inverter heat pumps work effectively in Ottawa winters down to very low temperatures.
Will a heat pump really keep my home warm in Ottawa winters?
Yes. Today’s cold-climate inverter heat pumps are engineered to deliver reliable heating well below freezing. For the coldest days, we typically recommend a hybrid setup — pairing the heat pump with your existing furnace as backup — to give you the best of both efficiency and comfort.
How much can I save with a heat pump?
Homeowners switching from electric baseboards or older equipment often see 30–60% lower heating costs. Actual savings depend on your current system, fuel rates, home insulation, and how the heat pump is configured.
Are there rebates available for heat pumps?
Yes. Several federal and provincial programs offer rebates for qualifying high-efficiency heat pump installations. We’ll help you understand which models qualify and walk you through the application process.
What size heat pump do I need?
Proper sizing depends on your home’s square footage, insulation, windows, ductwork, and climate zone. Our team performs a free in-home assessment to recommend the right capacity — oversized or undersized systems can hurt comfort, efficiency, and equipment lifespan.
How much does a heat pump cost installed in Ottawa?
A new high-efficiency central heat pump installation in Ottawa typically ranges from $4,700 to $8,500 depending on capacity, brand, and any ductwork or electrical upgrades required. We provide a clear all-in quote with no hidden charges.
